“. . . . SITTING BESIDE THE SOUL’S EAST WINDOW OF DIVINE SURPRISE.”
A philosophy of vision
This site takes its name from an old Quaker aphorism that invites us “to sit beside the soul’s east window of divine surprise.” Photography and poetry, along with all the arts, are part of that invitation. They invite us to surprise: to simple silence before the ineffable. They invite us to creative openness to our world; to see with renewed eyes and deepened awarenesses. At its core I believe photography is about mindfulness. Lest we forget, vision is one of the profoundest of graces. Image making is a simple reminder of that original grace.
I currently shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II and a variety of “L glass” and Zeiss lens. I print with an Epson 7900. Enjoy the site and let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
